Link It! Second Edition adds fresh content to help students link English with their interests and goals.

Create confident communicators

• Guide students to greater communicative competence and fluency. The NEW Skill Focus feature offers an easy to follow, practical approach to the four skills, providing students with a clear path to success.
• Model relevant, realistic communication with videos in every unit. Culture videos widen students’ perspectives, Video Link sections (levels 1 – 3) feature teenagers in relatable situations, and Vlogs (levels 3 - 6) present typical issues faced by young people today.
• Get students talking. Provide in-depth practice of functional language and conversation skills with two speaking pages in every unit, frequent pairwork exercises, and Group Chat, a listening, small group and whole class discussion feature in levels 4-6.

Support every student to identify and use their strengths, with resources for teaching mixed-ability classes, underpinned by rigorous pedagogical research in inclusive practices.

• Foster an inclusive classroom. The Step by Step feature in every unit and Essential & Extended vocabulary, grammar, reading and writing worksheets provide tasks that enable all students to feel a sense of achievement.
• Encourage every student to become an independent learner. Enhanced My Progress pages help students to recognize and celebrate what they have already achieved and identify areas where they need more practice.
• Provide effective, supportive feedback. Link It! Second Edition incorporates Assessment for Learning principles throughout with Learning Objectives on every skills page, plus in-depth support in the Teacher’s Guide.
• Cater for various learning styles. Ensure all students are engaged and challenged with a wide range of optional activities and features.
• Offer opportunities for creativity. Students express themselves through Global Skills Projects in every unit that include creating posters, videos, and blog posts. Students gain experience of preparing & delivering short presentations & roleplays on topics including technology, weekend plans, and their predictions about the future.
• Motivate students with course content that matches their level of English. Link It! Second Edition’s six levels span CEFR A1 to B2, allowing you to select an entry level which builds on what students already know while keeping them engaged with an appropriate level of challenge.

Prepare teenagers for lifelong success in an interconnected world

• Develop students’ global skills. Dedicated lessons in every unit help students develop the self-awareness, digital literacies, and other skills they will need to be successful global citizens.
• Make English useful and relevant. Show how learning English can help students achieve their ambitions, whether that’s travelling, studying or working abroad, or understanding English-language pop culture. The Real English feature in every unit provides students with colloquial phrases & useful expressions that they may encounter in TV shows, movies, music, and on social media.
• Prepare students for exams. Give students the opportunity to practise the skills and techniques that will help them successfully navigate a range of assessments with a variety of exam-type tasks. Exam Practice pages (Levels 3-6) enable students to check their exam readiness and identify areas for improvement.
• Develop students’ intercultural competences. Culture lessons (Levels 1-4) & a focus on culture in Listening lessons (Levels 5-6) help students learn about the world around them and understand the importance of respect, openness, and sensitivity.

Link it! Second Edition contains the following new or updated features:

• Refreshed, easy-to-navigate design.​
• NEW Skill Focus feature offers an easy to follow, micro skills development incorporated into every skills lesson.
• Global skills lessons now in EVERY unit; each global skill has a clear “Understand” goal or outcome structure (e.g. “Understand how to work on a team”) and is clearly signposted in the scope and sequence.
• Enhanced My Progress pages at the end of each unit encourage students to recognize and celebrate what they have learnt, and reflect on what they have enjoyed and found interesting.
• Updated opening spreads: new photo stories (levels 1 & 2), refreshed texts and Vlog videos added (level 3); new Vlog videos (levels 4-6).
• Learning objectives added to unit openers and all skills lessons and Can Do statements connected with key learning objectives, in accordance with Assessment for Learning principles.
• NEW Classroom Presentation Tool, e-Book and Online Practice, now directly built and hosted within Oxford English Hub.
• New paper type–students can write on print books in pen or pencil.
• NEW model writing texts (levels 3-6)

Found to improve students’ communicative competence

• All teachers agreed that Link It! helps to improve students’ communicative competence, with 37 describing the impact as significant.
• Teachers mostly attributed the positive impact to how Link It! presents language in context for appropriate use, how it develops grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation knowledge to form meaningful sentences and how it models the English language and provides communicative practice for coherence in communication.
• The majority of teachers described Link It! features such as the listening and speaking pages, and the grammar pages as quite effective or very effective in developing communicative competence.
